Welcome to Lynbrook Residents Association

Lynbrook is a vibrant community in South East Melbourne with a population of approximately 6,800. Because of its geographic location, Lynbrook is a suburb with the feel of a country town. We have our own shopping centre, schools, kinder, cricket club, sports club, hotel, etc. The Lynbrook Residents Association is a volunteer based, not for profit organisation, whose members meet monthly to ultimately want to make Lynbrook an even better place to live.  As well as discussing and acting on a variety of local issues, the group works to create community activities which bring together local families in a variety of social activities.

NOTICE: Next LRA meeting has been postponed until Monday 29th April, so as to avoid coinciding with ANZAC Day. Meeting to be held at the Lynbrook Primary School staff room at 7.30pm. See our new calendar page for more details of upcoming meetings and events.

News

New Banjo Paterson Park bench installed
Some months ago, the LRA petitioned Casey Council for a new bench to be installed in Banjo Paterson Park, so that there would be one that’s closer to the playground and standalone BBQ. Casey Council listened and has now installed the new bench, which we think is great. The delay was apparently due to them wanting to install a bench of similar style to the ones under the gazeebo and this took longer to procure.

Lynbrook wetlands endangered by litter and neglect
One of Lynbrook’s most precious assets, it’s beautiful wetlands – once a proud example to other Victorian development communities – is under threat from litter and neglect, as it pointed out by concerned residents in this news article.

High winds force 4th Moonlight Cinema event indoors
Most of the crowd had already assembled and were sitting comfortably under a balmy evening sky ready for the 4th installment of the Lynbrook Moonlight Cinema on Saturday, but despite all the best efforts on the part of the organisers, the high winds prevented use of the LRA’s huge inflatable screen. Fortunately, the LRA enacted their Plan B and swiftly relocated the crowd into the Lynbrook Primary School Performing Arts Centre. Being the first time this has happened, there were a few gremlins but these were eventually brought under control and the showing of The Muppets proceeded as planned and was enjoyed by all. City of Casey Mayor, Cnr. Amanda Stapledon, attended the performance and was on hand to draw the LRA member prize and to say a few words at the end of the performance.

LRA congratulates 100th member
Congratulations go to Felicity Taylor, who not only brought Lynbrook’s newset resident into the world this week, but coincidentally also became the LRA’s 100th member. The LRA encourages residents to sign up for membership, using the form on the right. In addition to receiving periodic E-Newsletters, providing a wealth of useful information, a strong member base enables the LRA to better represent locals when dealing with local and state authorities.

Tim Holding announces resignation
Member for Lyndhurst, Tim Holding, has announced he is standing down and resigning from politics. It remains unclear currently who will fill the void this now leaves. We wish Tim well for the future and look forward to working with whomever ends up taking up the seat.

Local residents turn out to see Wizard of Oz
Local residents were again out in force for the third installment of the Lynbrook Moonlight Cinema on Australia Day. See photos here. Casey Mayor, Amanda Stapledon, judged the Wizard of Oz Colouring Competition and all the children that took part were invited up to the big screen to collect their prizes and signed certificates. Congratulations also to our door prize winners, who walked away with the BlueRay DVD of the evening’s movie. It was a lovely evening under the stars and we look forward to the next Moonlight Cinema on 16 Feb for a showing of The Muppets.

LRA pushes VicRoads to address traffic intersection
The LRA has received a response from the Minister for Public Transport & Roads regarding the installation of hazard warning lights prior to the intersection of South Gippsland Highway & Lynbrook Boulevard. The LRA will be discussing this further with VicRoads to try to get these warning lights installed, so as to improve the safety of the crossing.
